Cranberry Jelly with Orange Zest
Monday, December 1, 2008 by Pam
- 1 12 oz bag of fresh cranberries
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 cup of water
- 1-2 tsp orange zest, chopped
- 1-2 tbsp juice from an orange
Heat water and sugar in a saucepan until boiling. Add the cranberries, orange zest and juice then reduce heat to medium. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat, cover and cool completely at room temperature. Refrigerate until serving time.
For jellied sauce, prepare like above but put the sauce through a strainer over a mixing bowl. Mash the cranberries with the back of a spoon until there is little pulp left. Make sure to scrape the outside of the strainer to get the sauce off. Stir, cover and let cool completely at room temperature. Refrigerate until serving time. Enjoy.

hmmm, sweet cranberrries, perfect accompaniment! :)
This looks great! I bet this complements the turkey perfectly! I think my kids would even like this -- it might show up at our Christmas table!
Yummy! Cranberry sauce is the one sauce that makes everything (really, everything under the sun) taste good. Love the brilliant color too.
This Thanksgiving I have truly come to realize and appreciate the wonderful pair that cranberry and orange are! I am all over anything with these two love birds in it! Looks mighty tasty!
Orange and cranberries go really well together, this looks delicious, perfect for Christmas.
Two of the best flavors together! Beautiful!
I love the colour, i did make the jelly but didn't add oranges, will o next time.
Lovely berries... fantastic jelly!
Oh gosh. this is so lovely...the color is so vibrant!!!
I made my first ever cranberry sauce this year myself. It was from the November Cooking Light and had some spice in it. I loved it!
a very refreshing combo...and tasty too (so I can imagine from the recipe) :)
Cranberry sauce with orange is so good. I've served it warm but not jelled like yours, I bet it is really refreshing chilled.
I am usually not a fan of jiggly stuff but this recipe sounds good:) I love cranberry anything!
Sounds interesting and easy! Fresh cranberries are not available here. Luv ur jelly!
I tried making my own once and it didn't go over very well. Haha. Everyone just loves it from the can. I don't like either really but it's funny, my sister's beau came for the 1st time this year and he requested more cans to be bought up front because he needs to take a bit of cranberry with each and every bite!!! Hah.
I always make fresh cranberry sauce, whole berry version, of course. I tried it once with the orange, but it didn't "float my boat". I still buy the canned jellied cranberry for those who like it. Your finished dish is so pretty, but who wouldn't love food in that color, anyway?
Looks lovely!
What, you don't like eating things shaped like the can they came from?? LOL
That makes me mouth water just looking at it!
I'm not a big cranberry fan. Maybe I should try it with orange zest and the juice next Thanksgiving.
Your jellied sauce is beautiful. I'll bet it tastes as good as it looks.
i love this... thanks for showing us how to make this... :)
mmm. i agree. homemade cranberry sauce is just amazingly good. i keep it a little thinner and use it on vanilla ice cream afterwords, too :) so good!
I love it...make it every year for christmas...yours looks great, and better than that canned stuff with the lines in it on the platter :)
I do have half a bag of cranberries sitting in my freezer for lack of things I could come up with to utilize them. This looks like a great idea!
I adore cranberries too. I have to have cranberry sauce with turkey at Christmas
Your Jello looks wonderful.
i've never had homemade cranberry sauce, i think i will be trying this this year. come to think of it, i can't really stand the store bought stuff like i used to.
This looks so yummy!! Can you put the jelly in jars too?
cranberries and oranges go together like peanut butter and jelly, apple pie and ice cream, and me and cinnamon. your jelly looks simply luscious. :)
The jelly looks delicious, love the color too !
